Despite initially considering Iron Man a "second-tier" Marvel character, Robert Downey Jr. didn't hesitate to star in 2008's Iron Man. During a recent actors' roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter, alongside Colman Domingo, Andrew Scott, Mark Ruffalo, Jeffrey Wright, and Paul Giamatti, Downey Jr shared his enthusiasm for working with Jon Favreau, who directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2 (and appeared in multiple MCU films as Happy Hogan). When asked if he paused to consider "signing up for a studio superhero movie" after starting his career in indie films, Downey Jr replied:
